High Street Vet Surgery is a well-established, small animal purpose-built clinic located on the north side of Rockhampton. The clinic boasts two consultation rooms, a separate dog and cat ward, a theatre, two treatment areas, a pathology laboratory, and a large backyard. We are currently an all women’s team of 15 staff, six veterinarians, seven Veterinary nurses, support staff, and a dedicated receptionist.

The privately-owned practice is equipped with everything needed, including Idexx in-house laboratory suite, ultrasound machine, digital radiography, dental radiographs, two IM3 dental machines, and an endoscope, allowing you to flourish in your environment. Beyond this, we are committed to upgrading instrumentation, ensuring that new developed techniques and practices are available for our patients.

The surgery enjoys a busy caseload, including soft tissue and orthopedic surgeries, along with advanced medical case work-ups. Qualified and experienced veterinary nurses support our veterinarians.

We understand that 80% of our profession are women, including vets, nurses and support staff, and there will be a time at some in their life these women may want to via down a different path to start a family. At High Street Veterinary Surgery, we take this as standard and have strategies to support and empower our women to return to practice when they are ready.

What others are saying….

“I choose High Street Vet Surgery for my practical assessments because they came up with many great reviews on google. I also had a few people recommend the clinic to me due to their own great experiences. I also really liked that I could go onto the website and learn a lot about the practice and the team.

I appreciated that I was properly walked around and introduced to everything in a one-on-one situation because some places throw you in the deep end.

I felt very welcomed, and everyone made an effort to talk to me when I first arrived. It made me feel more comfortable to ask questions and get involved because I already felt so at ease with the team. All of the vets were very encouraging and always made me feel welcome in their consult rooms. I honestly think a smile can go a long way to making a person feel relaxed and welcomed. I was never short of a smile or a joke with the amazing staff.

The vets were incredibly kind and patient as they always took time to explain and show things to me throughout the day, such as procedures and discussing cases. This enabled me to learn a lot about diagnostic medicine and understand the unique mindset each vet had in their approach to cases. While on this placement, I saw my first few emergency cases, and it was very enlightening to see how a team needs to work efficiently and quickly together.

I would recommend students coming to High Street Veterinary Surgery as I think everyone should get the opportunity to work with such an amazing team.”

“Jocelyn has spent countless years in all sorts of facets of the veterinary industry and is an exceptional boss who owns a beautiful, well-run clinic full of ladies from all walks and stages of life.

For me, as a young woman who lives and breathes veterinary work, I came to Jocelyn looking for that “long term” job, the one where you won’t stay for many years and know you’ll be supported throughout them. Don’t get me wrong, my 1st few jobs as a vet were great, but I always knew they wouldn’t work well for me once I wanted to start a family. Jocelyn changed this for me, and now she’s going help change it for more of our profession, not just her employees.”
