Weight Loss Program

When our pets are over nourished and are carrying a little extra weight, you may not be aware how much it can affect their health. They lack the ability to exercise and have a tendency to retain weight, putting them at risk for becoming obese. Even being as little as 20% overweight can greatly increase the risk of your pet developing serious health conditions as their body fat increases, so does the risk for:

  • Osteoarthritis
  • Reduced mobility
  • Increased physical injury
  • Kidney disease
  • Respiratory disease
  • Cancer
  • Shortened life expectancy
  • Bladder stones
  • Diabetes mellitus
  • Hepatic lipidosis (cats only)
High Street Vet Surgery has tailored the Ultimate Weight Loss Program to ensure your pet reaches their goal weight.  One of our Qualified Veterinary Nurses is allocated to your weight loss journey who will assess your pet and tailor a program to suit their needs. Our Qualified Veterinary Nurses offer Dental Checks to talk all things teeth. The 15minute consultation includes a full examination of your pet’s teeth, (providing they cooperate), a dental home care plan, and answer any questions you may have regarding a dental procedure.

PetPep

The AVA PetPEP is the Australian Veterinary Association’s Pets and People Education Program, an education initiative that teaches children about responsible pet ownership and safety around animals.

In Queensland, AVA PetPEP works with AVA member veterinarians and a range of animal industry professionals in the local community to deliver interactive, highly visual and age-appropriate educational visits to primary schools across the state. Visits are free of charge and fully coordinated by the AVA PetPEP team.

The AVA PetPEP team is able to arrange all aspects of a PetPEP school visit. They coordinate visit requests from schools, organise presenters, and provide you with presentation outlines, resources and full coordination of the visit program.

AVA PetPEP school visits are available to primary schools throughout Queensland.

Schools are encouraged to request a school visit by either submitting an online booking form at https://www.vetvoice.com.au/ec/pet-ownership/kids-animals-and-education/school-visits-from-ava-petpep/ or contacting the AVA PetPEP Education Team. AVA PetPEP school visits are an ideal tool to introduce or consolidate classroom learning and address outcomes across a number of learning areas and are aligned with the Australian Curriculum.
