New Graduate/ Veterinarian

High Street Vet Surgery is a well-established, small animal purpose-built clinic located on the north side of Rockhampton. The clinic boasts two consultation rooms, a separate dog and cat ward, a theatre, two treatment areas, its own lab, and a large backyard.  We are a team of 19 staff being 7 veterinarians and 8 Veterinary nurses plus support staff and dedicated receptionists.

We provide flexible working hours paid by the hour. A full working week is 38 hours a week. Most of our team members work part time doing the hours that they choose.

We are privately owned with all the equipment needed including Idexx in-house laboratory suite, ultrasound machine, digital radiographs, dental radiographs, two IM3 dental machines, and an endoscope allowing you to flourish in your environment. Beyond this, we are committed to continue upgrading instrumentation, ensuring that new developed techniques and practices are available for our patients. For example, we have recently bought a humidicrib and electrosurgical unit and new monitors with capnograph.

The surgery enjoys a busy caseload including soft tissue and orthopaedic surgeries, along with advanced medical case work-ups.
We have great clients who are keen to do the work-ups needed to diagnose and treat their pets and are willing to refer to specialist clinics. We provide an after-hours service, (which is shared with a local clinic) for those keen to challenge themselves and learn more. These hours are always supported by another veterinarian and nurse.

Continuing education and holiday time are a must. We love to learn more and also love to have a great home life. We are involved in the Australian Veterinary Association “Employer of Choice Programme”. In addition, we have pathways and flexibility in our clinic to enable Veterinarians, particularly mother veterinarians to work while pregnant if they wish to and to return when they are ready.

We want you to succeed and love your profession as much as we do. Our veterinarians are all experienced and ready to coach and mentor you.

This opportunity is the perfect job for a new graduate keen to gain experience whilst not being left to swim in the deep end! The cases you see here are varied and you’ll have the opportunity to learn skills that you wouldn’t have in an inner-city practice but you will get to do it with all the support you need, one of our vets will always be available to come in with you or have a chat when you feel ready to start on-call work.

High Street Vet Surgery value the words professionalism, integrity, team, relationships, and empathy with everything we do. Rockhampton is a great place to live with so much to do. You can have horses, culture, sports, nice winters and the beach is only down the road.
